The idea that Joan was raped is now unfortunately firmly entrenched in the mind of a certain group, but this is contradicted by Joan's own statement below. [click here to see a refutation of the arguments made by the author who popularized the notion].
Joan, as quoted by the eyewitness Jean Toutmouille, referred to her body on the morning of her execution as "my completely pure body, which was never corrupted", which (as even the supporters of the rape theory acknowledge) is a reference to her virginity. This is corroborated by other eyewitnesses who say that Joan told them that her guards and an English lord had attempted to rape her, but apparently did not actually violate her.
