Joan of Arc's 'Letter to the English', footnote 6

Some authors have thought that this statement may have been a conscious attempt to make a comparison between the coming battle at Orléans and the defeat of Attila the Hun at the battle of Châlons, France, in 451 AD, nearly a thousand years earlier (thereby explaining, according to these authors, the choice of that number). It seems more likely that she was simply using the phrase "thousand years" for effect, without any deliberate reference to a specific campaign or battle.
